Fabian Hamilton MP was invited to visit Alwoodley Primary School by Jane Langley, Headteacher, on Friday 27th February to see the school at work, meet parents, speak to the pupils' School Council and to present a certificate. Fabian is introduced to pupils at the Key Stage 2 morning assembly |

Painting competition: Along with other primary schools in Leeds NE constituency, Alwoodley Primary School submitted an entry for the House of Parliament Painting Competition run in connnection with The Eurpopean Year of Intercultural Dialogue. The painting submitted by the school was composed by Ella and was chosen by Fabian and his team to be set to Westminster where it was selcetd from many other entries from all over the country to appear in the final of the competition. The painting from Alwoodley, unfortunately did not win but a special certificate was awarded to the school. Fabian shows pupils the certificate presented to the school. |

The young artist Ella, accompanied by her mother, was invited to London in honour of this success where they met Fabian, visited the Houses of Parliament and attended the traditional Westminster children's Christmas Party. Artist Ella receives the certificate on behalf of her school. |

School Council: Pupils at Alwoodley Primary School have the opportunity to serve on their School Council which represents their views to the school governors and managers and is an important way in which pupils learn how democracy functions. The visit was a was a super opportunity for pupils to question a real MP about his work and seek his views on issues of importance. Fabian answers questions from members of the School Council. |

School developments: Jane Langley, Headteacher, showed Fabian the many improvements that have been made to the school and the exciting resources that pupils may now use in their learning. Fabian was particularly pleased to see the many computers that pupils have access to and the exciting resources for their music making. Jane Langley also outlined the way the school is developing Extended Services conjunction with other local schools and the Alwoodley Children's Centre. Fabian was very interested to look at the new web site, Alwoodley Extended Services that has been created to help meet the ever changing and varied needs of children in the community of Alwoodley.
