Campaign to save local bus services
Local Services under Threat 46 and 2B
Local constituent Barbara Killen of Moortown has drawn my attention and concern to the proposed withdrawal of two First Bus Services by the company to take effect from the 19th July 2009. These buses provide a vital link for constituents in Moortown to reach the Merrion Centre directly. From the 19th July, it will be necessary for bus users to use alternative services from Moortown to Leeds and then change to use the free city centre circular service if they are unable to walk across town. This is not 'transforming travel' in any sense if useful routes are axed and is one of several issues that I shall be taking up with First managers in the next few days.
First Group have claimed that the services are used by too few people to justify providing them but this is not the experience of those on these buses who have noted good loadings.
Full details of these and other changes to Leeds Bus services provided by Frst Bus can be found on their web site. Click here
Barbara would welcome support from other bus users who are going to be disadvantaged by the proposed loss of these services and I would like to hear from constituents of this and any other related issues concerning the local services provided by this company. Please email me with your concerns at fabian@leedsne.co.uk. If you would like to be put in touch with Barbara to help her campaign, I will be able to pass on your contact details to her.
