Bernard Moss Awarded Chevalier de la Légion D’Honneur

Longstanding Labour Party member and constituent, Bernard Moss, was honoured by the President of France, François Hollande, for his wartime service in the Royal Navy during the Second World War. Bernard is pictured with Fabian Hamilton MP and Lord Mayor Gerry Harper.

Bernard, who is now 91 years old, was a stoker and his ship, along with many other Royal Navy vessels, helped to liberate France from Nazi occupation in 1944.

The French Honorary Consul for Leeds, Jeremy Burton, formally awarded the Legion D’Honneur, France’s highest civilian and military honour, at a ceremony in the Civic Hall in the presence of the Lord Mayor, Gerry Harper, on Friday 27th January.
