Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson refuses to apologise over Libya comments
During the Conservative Party conference, Boris Johnson remarked that the Libyan city of Sirte would be a good tourist destination "when they clear the dead bodies away". In light of the recent conflict in Libya, this comment not only trivialises the situation there but also dishonours those killed fighting Daesh.
When Fabian Hamilton MP challenged the Foreign Secretary on this during FCO questions this week, Johnson refused to apologise again. Boris Johnson is making the office of Foreign Secretary an embarrassment to the United Kingdom, both at home and abroad. While he behaves like a clown to the amusement of a minority of Tory MPs, the truth is that he is completely incompetent. Johnson's refusal to apologise is pompous, lacks class and disrespects both the Libyan government and the Libyan people who have suffered in this conflict against Daesh.
"They have got a brilliant vision to turn Sirte into the next Dubai. The only thing they have got to do is clear the dead bodies away" - Boris Johnson, Foreign Secretary
