Nazanin Zaghari Ratcliffe is a British citizen of Iranian origin who still holds dual nationality. On a routine visit to her parents in Iran to celebrate Persian New Year in March last year, she was arrested and detained. Last September she was tried on unknown charges and imprisoned for five years. Her 22 month old daughter is being cared for by her parents but her British Passport was confiscated as she was boarding the flight back to London.
I met with her husband, Richard Ratcliffe, when he attended an event in Parliament last December. The British Government is not doing enough to secure Nazanin’s release and I will be campaigning with Richard and all the family’s supporters to get her released as soon as possible.
