Fabian's Charity Cycle Ride 2013

Fabian rides in aid of St George's Crypt

In what has now become almost a tradition, Fabian is to stage another sponsored bicycle ride this summer in July in aid of charity. This summer Fabian has ag
reed to ride in support of the work of St George's Crypt to support those without a home in Leeds. Fabian will ride from Leeds to our twin city of Dortmund in Germany where he hopes to meet with another local organisation working with those without a roof over their heads. On learning this news, St George's Crypt was delighted to issue the following statement.

St George's Crypt has been providing care and support to homeless and destitute people from all parts of Leeds since 1930. Today, the Crypt has been transformed from the early days and now provides state of the art catering for up to 100 people every day; a wide range of training and engagement activities for clients; crisis accommodation for up to 30 people who otherwise would be sleeping rough; and volunteering opportunities in many aspects of the Crypt for former clients as a pathway towards employability.

The Crypt is proud that 20% of the current workforce are former clients - a notable achievement. There are also approximately 80 volunteers from all walks of life in Leeds - without whom it would be hard for the Crypt to carry out the wide range of services it provides every day of the week.

There has been a long-standing partnership with our Leeds MPs right across the city - and we are delighted that our very good friend Fabian is riding for us this year. We wish him very well indeed for a really successful and enjoyable cycle ride from Leeds to one of our twin cities Dortmund.

Fabian asks sincerely for your support and all the money donated goes to the the charity. Fabian pays all the expenses involved in making the ride including ferry charges and accommodation for himself and his wife Rosie (who drives a support vehicle).

Fabian will make his journey as follows:

  • Day 1 Tuesday 16th of July: Send off from Leeds followed by a ride to Hull Ferry Port
  • Day 2 Wednesday 17th July: Rotterdam to Vught (near s'Hertogenbosch) in Holland
  • Day 3 Thursday 18th July: Vught to Boekend (near Venlo and the border with Germany)
