Garden Party tribures to Tom and Edna Murray
Public service celebrated in glorious weather
Sunday September 7th 2014 was the chosen day for a garden party planned initially as the beginning of the Leeds North East Labour Party fund raising campiagn for the forthcoming general election. It could not have turned out better under glorious sunshine and the event also became the ideal occasion to formally thank Tom Murray, last year's Lord Mayor of Leeds and his wife Edna for all their many years of service to the city and to the Labour Party. Councillor Rebecca Charlwood and her husband Andy threw open their newly acquired home and garden and many constituents came along to offer their support to the campain and also to thank Tom and Edna.

In making presentation gifts to Tom and Edna, both Fabian and Councillor Keith Wakefield, Leader of Leeds City Council, paid tribute to the many years of selfless service to the community that Tom and Edna had offered and, in particular, to the colossal amount of work that Tom had undertaken during his many years working as a Councillor for Garforth. It was particularly appropriate that their long service had been recognised by the honour of asking then to undertake the offices of Mayor and Mayoress last year.
