Rebecca's post-election message to electors

I would like to thank every one of you who voted for me in the Council elections on Thursday 5th May. In the recent past Moortown has returned Liberal Democrat Councillors. When the boundary was redrawn last year the pattern was ended with the election of Sharon Hamilton for Labour with a small majority. This year the trend has continued and support for Labour has grown. I am delighted to have been elected to serve Moortown and Meanwood alongside Sharon. We will work hard to serve everyone whether or not you voted for us. It is our commitment to you.

The result in Moortown and Meanwood, and in Leeds elections generally, gives a clear message to the Conservative Liberal Democrat government. - You do not have general support for the damaging policy decisions you are making.

Your Labour candidate in May 2011

Rebecca Charlwood is Labour's candidate for Moortown and Meanwood ward in the Leeds City Council elections this May. Rebecca, originally from Newcastle upon Tyne, has lived in Leeds since coming to study at the University in 1998. Rebecca started out her working life over in Crossgates as a support worker in a hostel for people recovering from mental illness. She now works as an operations manager for Leonard Cheshire Disability, working across the whole of the UK to ensure that Leonard Cheshire's services for disabled people comply with tough quality standards. She lives on Stainbeck Lane in Meanwood with her Husband Andy and she is a governor at Moortown Primary School. Rebecca said "I'm delighted and honoured to have been chosen as Labour candidate for the ward in which I live. If you elect me, I'll work hard to ensure that the views of local people are listened to by the council, and I'll use my professional expertise in service improvement to work to make council services better and more responsive to your needs."
