Fabian was delighted to present the award to the group finalist for Woman of the Year of the Chapel Allerton Group of Slimming World. The group meets at Technorth and provides support, encouragement and comradeship for slimmers.



This years finalist was Maggie Asseno who was presented with prizes and the pretigious sash by Fabian.

On Friday 24th October 2008 Fabian attended the launch of 'Feel Good Factor' an organisation dedicated to tackling health inequalities and improving lifestyles particularly in Black and Ethnic Minority Communities. On 17th November 2005 the Prime Minister recently visited Sure Start in Chapeltown with Fabian to meet parents and children at this hugely successful project.



Pre-school youngsters at the Chapletown 'Sure Start' Family Centre braved chilly conditions to greet the PM during his visit to Yorkshire.Sure Start was launched by the government to help very young children, offering support for mums and dads as well as communities by providing improved childcare and better emotional development for kids. In Chapletown, this means day care, help with learning English, teatime clubs and after-school sessions for working parents. Mr Blair was shown the Early Years library and the play areas by centre manager Dawn Lewis, as he chatted with children and volunteers. He said he was impressed with what he had seen, adding that Sure Start was invaluable not just for young kids, but also for their parents.





The Prime Minster then left with Fabian to visit Little London community primary school where he met a discussion group of about 50 young Muslims aged between 16 and 25 along with John Battle MP and Hilary Benn MP.



After his Advice Surgeries at Allerton Grange High School on 2nd July 2005, Fabian attended the Leeds Co-operative Society's Make Poverty History event at Stanningley Rugby League Club.

Fabian attended the official opening of the new Carr Manor Primary School Nursery on 1st July 2005 and performed the opening ceremony. The nursery is available for children aged 3 and 4 and has places for 26 children in the morning and 26 children in the afternoon. The building work took six months to complete. The nursery is currently open form 9am until 3.15pm but Headteacher Linda Bowles hopes to extend these hours from 8am until 6pm by January 2006. There are still a few place left for September 2005 but with the school having such a good reputation these places wont be empty for long!



Fabian in cycling gear posing for the camera before setting off for the 30 mile ride to York. On 25th June 2005 he joined the G8 Bike Riders in Victoria Gardens when they arrived from London at around 3.30pm. He spoke to the assembled supporters of Make Poverty History and then at 4pm set off for York on his bike with four of the G8 riders.



Fabian opened the new NHS Nursery for Chapeltown based in the former Leopold Street Primary School on Thursday 16th June 2005. It was the first of three nurseries he opened that afternoon in the heart of Chapeltown. He also opened the new Children's Centre next door and the SureStart Centre built in the grounds of the old school.



Chapel Allerton elected three new Labour councillors in June 2004 to represent them on Leeds City Council. The new team consists of Cllr Sharon Hamilton, Cllr Jane Dowson and Cllr Mohammed Rafique. The team are dedicated to helping the Chapel Allerton and Chapeltown communities and are working hard to ensure that this area continues to thrive as one of the most diverse areas in Leeds.



Second World War veteran Dennis Clarke is a pensioner who is delighted with what the Labour Government has done for ordninary pensioners. "I've never been so well off", he says. Dennis is a keen gardener and appeared in Fabian's 2005 election leaflets.



Local Businessman Abid Hussain runs the Abu Bakar supermarket chain and supported Fabian during the 2005 election campaign, even appearing in his election leaflet. The supermarkets are beautifully laid out with a superb choice of products. The latest one (pictured) is on Roundhay Road.



Arthur France is the longstanding chair of the Leeds Carnival Committee which recently opened its own Carnival Building in Chapeltown. Each year he works with his team of volunteers designing and producing the most extraordinary and colourful array of costumes for the annual event which takes place on August Bank Holiday each year. Arthur also designs a special costume for Fabian as the Carnival's local MP which Fabian has worn for the past three years whilst walking the route through Harehills and Chapeltown.



Marylin Amini runs the Pistachio sandwich shop in Chapel Allerton with her husband and the couple are very well known in the area. She strongly supported Fabian and the Labour Party during the recent General Election, appearing on his election leaflet and putting up his posters in the shop.
