TESCO Redevelopment Plans deferred

Leeds City Council Plans panel met on Thursday 28th August 2009 to consider the planning application by TESCO for the redevelopment of their existing site and adjacent areas on Roundhay Road. The outcome of the meeting was that a decision was deferred pending further studies and for there to be better, more democratic consultation with local constituents about all the issues involved.

Fabian Hamilton opposes the redevelopment, echoing the concerns of local people about the impact the new store will have on many apsects of the environment in Oakwood including traffic, jobs, local commerce and the risk of damaging the precious wooded urban setting of Roundhay Road. Fabian is maintaining close contact with many hundreds of local people in the constituency about the project and has written to them again following the meeting of the 28th August. As he knows that the issues are of much wider concern, a copy of his letter is available by clicking here.

Fabian particularly calls for clarity from Roundhay Councillors about whether or not they are in favour of the development. Councillor Mathew Lobley was reported as having infomed the City Council Planning Department as having "no overall objection to the project" and this view will clearly disappoint the very large number of local people who have expressed profound objections to the development.
